Cleaning, Recycling Bulk Waste
How cleaning, waste and recycling services operate across the Brunswick. Sets out expected standards in shared areas and how to report problems or missed services
Recycling Guidance
Recycling facilities are provided in each block’s bin room, with separate containers for mixed recyclables and general waste. Residents are encouraged to sort materials correctly before disposal, as incorrect mixing can lead to rejected collections and increased waste. Clear, consistent recycling habits support both environmental goals and estate-wide cleanliness.
Routine Caretaking
The estate receives scheduled cleaning and housekeeping visits throughout the week, covering stairwells, lifts, entrance lobbies, bin rooms and shared walkways. Caretakers carry out routine duties designed to maintain safe and usable spaces for everyone. Caretaking covers cleaning and basic housekeeping. Repairs and faults should be reported separately through the repairs service.
Residents can support this work by keeping corridors clear, disposing of rubbish properly and reporting any issues promptly so they can be addressed on the next available visit.
Bulk Waste Disposal
Large household items such as furniture, appliances and mattresses must not be left in corridors, stairwells or beside bin rooms. Camden provides a bookable bulk-waste collection service, and items should only be placed out on the agreed collection day. Leaving items in shared areas creates fire hazards, blocks access routes and adds significantly to caretaking workloads. Bulk waste collections must be booked through Camden’s bulk collection service.
Residents planning to dispose of large items are encouraged to coordinate early, use the correct booking process and avoid leaving anything loose or uncontained in communal spaces. Specialist waste such as builders’ rubble, tiles or heavy materials must be taken to appropriate disposal sites, as these items cannot be collected as part of the estate’s normal service.
Reporting & Response
Issues relating to cleaning, waste or caretaking should be reported as soon as they are identified so they can be logged and addressed. Reports should be made through Camden’s standard reporting channels and should include the block name, location, and a brief description of the problem. Clear reporting helps caretakers prioritise tasks, track recurring issues, and ensure missed services are followed up. Urgent hazards—such as blocked access routes or significant spillages—should be reported immediately rather than waiting for the next scheduled visit.
Bin Rooms, Hygiene & Pests
Bin rooms and waste areas must be kept clean and free from loose rubbish, food waste or leaking bags, as poor hygiene can quickly lead to odours and pest problems. All waste should be securely bagged and placed fully inside the correct container. Residents should not leave waste on the floor or wedge doors open, as this undermines cleaning efforts and increases the risk of vermin. Camden monitors bin rooms as part of routine caretaking, but prompt reporting of hygiene or pest concerns helps ensure issues are dealt with before they escalate.
