Seeing the flowers that have been planted in the bed outside door 6 is really cheering – I’m grateful to the person who has taken the trouble to plant and look after them. My own balcony is looking rather sorry for itself – though I have now planted tomatoes and sown some herbs. If you’re interested in gardening, and would like to win a prize, Camden are encouraging people to enter Camden in Bloom. Categories include Best Council Housing Balcony, and you’d need to get your entry in between 1-11 June. Full details are on their website www.camden.gov.uk/camdeninbloom
Thanks to Stuart Tappin for this evocative photograph of the Georgian terrace that was on the site of O’Donnell Court.
my name is peggy and I have lived here 36 years – having a six week old baby thankful to get somewhere to live. have been on the tenants/residents committee, on and off, for 30 years!
looking forward to what long term residents think about this new website
Before the new shopping center was formed there was one grubby cafe and a bookshop and not much else.
Now there are many restaurants, but mostly of the chain variety. Within a short distance there are some cracking places to eat. My absolute favourites are Cigala in Lambs Conduit Street, The Norfolk Arms which has changed from a football type bar to a really good Spanish tapas place. Also Konstam at the Prince Albert (2 Acton Street WC1X 9NA) is a great place to eat, you can see the kitchen from the dining area and Chef Oliver Rowe tries hard to source as many products as possible within the M25. They even serve English wine, and very good it is too.
A lovely new cafe has opened within the last month at the United Reform Church in Tavistock Place. It is called Lumen Cafe. It is clean, modern and spacious with a sweet garden to sit in on warmer days. Although at the moment it is only open Monday – Friday until 3pm this may change in the future. It has lovely food, freshly made for you and friendly staff and is a real pleasure to visit. The venue is available in the evenings for special events. At the present time it has a photographic exhibition on showing the residents of Hillview Estate.
